BOSTON, Mass.—In a pre-tournament tune-up, UMASS Boston scored three unanswered third period goals on the way to a 5-2 New England Hockey Conference contest Saturday evening.
The Thoroughbreds finish the regular season with a 11-10-4 overall and 7-9-2 NEHC record. Skidmore finishes sixth in the final standings and will travel to third seed Hobart for an NEHC quarterfinal on Feb. 22 at 7 p.m.
The Beacons will be the fifth seed with a 14-10-1 overall and 10-7-1 NEHC mark.
Down 1-0 after one, Skidmore took a 2-1 lead on second period goals by
Reid Russell and
Callahan Johnson. UMB tied it at 18:27 of the second on a power play goal.
The Beacons scored three times in the third, capped by an empty net goal at 17:30.
Brian Kowalski made the most of his start with 43 saves for the Thoroughbreds.
