#5 Hobart escapes with narrow win

GENEVA, N.Y.— The Skidmore College ice hockey team fell 4-2 to third seed and fifth ranked Hobart College in a New England Hockey Conference quarterfinal Saturday night.
 
The Thoroughbreds finish at 11-11-4, while the Statesmen are 19-4-3.
 
Skidmore led first when Owen Campbell scored his seventh of the season at 11:30 of the first period from Tim Allen and Matthew Monk.
 
Will Harrison tied it for Hobart at 6:03 of the second period. Chase Bell scored his first goal of the season at 12:52 to give the Statesmen a 2-1 lead. Less than a minute later, Campbell redirected a Reid Russell shot from the point past Hobart goalie Liam Lascelle for his eighth goal of the season. William Brochu also notched an assist on the power-play goal at 13:33.
 
Skidmore goalie Brandon Kasel kept the score tied for as long as he could in the third period, stopping 15 shots before Travis Schneider scored the game-winner on a power-play goal at 15:56. The Statesmen added an empty netter at 19:55 for the 4-2 final.
 
Kasel competed his outstanding career with 45 saves.
