SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – The Skidmore College men's basketball team failed to find the answers to solve the Clarkson University offense in a 74-63 Liberty League loss in front of a capacity Big Green Scream crowd at the Williamson Center Saturday afternoon.
The Thoroughbreds drop to 7-16 and 6-10 in Liberty League play. The Golden Knights move to 8-15 and 6-10.
Tautvydas Kupstas and
Ty Lamport led for Skidmore with 17 points each. Lamport had eight rebounds, a block, and a steal.
Greg Skoric added nine rebounds and
Riley Greene hauled in eight boards of his own.
It was the final home game for seniors
Pat Gallagher and
Jordan Cole. Gallagher had seven rebounds, while Cole had two boards.
Matt Higgins topped the Golden Knights with 15 points and three blocks. Joe Lucas contributed an additional 13 points. Reese Swedberg tallied a double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds.
Clarkson got up to an early lead as they jumped up 15-6 in the first seven minutes, maintaining the lead throughout the half. With 2:01 remaining a good layup by
Ty Lamport and two good free throws by
Riley Greene put Skidmore within eight points. But the Golden Nights responded and sent the Thoroughbreds went into halftime trailing 37-25.
Skidmore mounted a comeback in the second half. Skoric hit two good free throws to cut the lead to nine, 40-31 with 17:03 to play, starting an 8-0 run. Three different Skidmore players, Skoric, Lamport, and Murunge, scored layups in the run to come within three points at 40-37 with 14:18 remaining. However, the Golden Knights were able to hold off the comeback and went on to secure the 74-63 win.
The Thoroughbreds travel for their final weekend of regular season action as they face RIT Feb. 21 at 7:30 p.m. and Hobart on Feb. 22 at 4 p.m.
