Saints sneak past Thoroughbreds, 65-62

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – The Skidmore College men's basketball team fought back and forth with St. Lawrence, but a late layup and made free throws gave the Saints a 65-62 win on Friday night.
 
The Thoroughbreds drop to 7-15 overall and 6-9 in Liberty League play, while the Saints move to 8-13, 6-9.
 
Four Skidmore players scored double-digits. Riley Greene led the pack with 16 points. Greene also tallied four rebounds, a block, and a steal. Ty Lamport finished with 14 points and eight rebounds, while Ryan Murunge contributed 13 points. Greg Skoric earned his fourth double-double of the season with 12 points and 16 rebounds alongside two blocks.
 
Trent Adamson led with 16 points for the Saints. Luke Hicks was close behind with 15 points, 11 in the second half. Hicks had a team high nine rebounds. Chris Jeffrey and Cale Sargent both contributed 11 points.
 
The Thoroughbreds went up 15-9 in the first 10 minutes of the game. Greene scored 10 of the 15 points, including two made three pointers. The Saints closed the gap toward the end of the half, but Skidmore held on to a 35-32 lead at the break.
 
The teams went back and forth in the second half. Greg Skoric gave Skidmore a 56-52 lead on a layup with 6:32 remaining. The Saints worked their way back into the lead 64-60 on an old fashion 3-point play by Adamson with 2:22 to play.
 
Skoric put back a rebound to cut it to 64-62 on the next possession. The teams traded misses until Hicks went to the line after being fouled on a steal. He hit the first for a 65-62 advantage with :15 left. He missed the second, giving Skidmore a final look, but a deep three just missed to leave it 65-62.
 
The Thoroughbreds return to the Williamson Center Saturday at 4 p.m. against Clarkson for the Big Green Scream and Senior Day.
