Big Green Scream highlights final home basketball weekend

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – The Skidmore College men's and women's basketball teams host the final home games of the regular season with St. Lawrence visiting on Friday and Clarkson on Saturday for the 13th edition of the Big Green Scream.
 
The Thoroughbreds play St. Lawrence on Friday night with the women's game at 5:30 p.m. followed by the men's game at 7:30 p.m.
 
Saturday's Big Green Scream against Clarkson begins with the women's game at 2 p.m. and the men's game at 4 p.m.
 
On Saturday, the first 250 fans at each game will receive a free limited edition Big Green Scream t-shirt. There will be in-game contests and prizes including a smart TV giveaway, as well as free ice cream from Stewart's.
 
The Recyclemania challenge returns to the Big Green Scream, as Sustainable Skidmore is looking to make the event a zero-waste basketball game. Remember to recycle and compost at the event as Skidmore competes in the national challenge.
 
In addition, there will be a Winter Carnival hosted by the Student Government Association's First Year Class Council with free food, games, and prizes. The event will take place in the Dance Center Gym after the games from 5:30-8:00 p.m.
 
The Skidmore men (7-14, 6-8) are fighting for a playoff berth. The Thoroughbreds are in fifth place with four games to play. The top six teams qualify.
 
The team is coming off a dominating road win against Bard with Greg Skoric coming up with a double-double of 21 points and 20 rebounds. St. Lawrence (7-13, 5-9) is tied for sixth, hoping to push its way into the postseason. Clarkson (7-14, 5-9) is coming off a loss against Hobart, and will have to face Ithaca College before traveling to the Williamson Center for the Big Green Scream.
 
The Skidmore women (5-16, 3-11) are coming off a one-sided road victory 75-34 at Bard College. Jessica Centore (13.0) and Kate McCarney (12.2) are averaging double-digits in scoring, St. Lawrence (15-6, 11-3) is in second place and had a narrow 64-53 in over The Thoroughbreds on Jan. 18. Clarkson (7-13, 3-11) comes into the weekend with a two-game losing streak.  
 
The Big Green Scream will also serve as Senior Day for both teams. The women will recognize Jessica Centore and Lilly Berg, while the men will honor Pat Gallagher and Jordan Cole.
 
For the women, Centore has been a key aspect of their game both on offense and defense. Centore has led for most of the season in scoring and is currently averaging 13.0 points per game. Defensively she averages 2.2 steals and 4.4 rebounds per game.
 
Berg returned to the Skidmore defense after being injured early on in the season. Since her return, Berg has been a leader in the paint with 4.1 rebounds per game. She scored a season-high 15 points against Bard in late January and averages 4.6 points and 4.1 rebounds.
 
On the men's side Gallagher has been a key player since his first year with the Thoroughbreds. He is averaging 8.8 points and 4.4 rebounds per game. A team captain, he has been on two NCAA tournament teams and the 2018-2019 Liberty League champion team. Gallagher scored a season-high 18 points against Union.  
 
Cole has been a huge presence both on and off the bench for his four years. A senior captain, he has seen increased playing this season and leads the team in three-point with 41.9 percent.  Cole has also been on two NCAA tournament teams and the 2018-2019 Liberty League champion team.
 
Both teams will finish the regular season on the road Feb. 21 at RIT and Feb. 22 at Hobart.
