Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Ithaca escapes Skidmore, 83-81

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – The Skidmore College men's basketball team overcame a 14-point deficit, but Ithaca got the last bucket in an 83-81 Bomber Liberty League win Saturday at the Williamson Center.

The Thoroughbreds move to 6-13 and 5-7 in league play, while Ithaca is 13-5 and 8-3.

Sebastian Alderete's clean layup with 3.1 seconds to play was the difference for the Bombers.

Skidmore put five players score in double-digits. Ty Lamport rang-up a double-double of 22 points and 13 rebounds. Greg Skoric also tallied a double-double with 13 points and 14 rebounds. Riley Greene and Pat Gallagher each contributed 13 points, while Tautvydas Kupstas added 11. Gallagher also had eight rebounds.

The Bombers also had five players tally double-digits. Skylar Sinon led the way with 24 points, while Jake Mitchell and Bryan Karl both contributed 14 points. Alderete and Zach Warech added 11 each.

Ithaca used a barrage of three-pointers to go up 48-37 at the half. The Bombers hit 12 of 23 (52.2%) attempts from beyond the arc in the opening half.

Skidmore battled back after the break. At the 17 minute mark Skoric hit a three pointer to put Skidmore within three points, 52-49. A good three  by Greene followed by a made layup by Lamport tied the game 54-54 with 15:19 left.

The remainder of the half was a back and forth battle with five lead changes and three ties. With 14 seconds left in the game Greene missed a layup but it was rebounded by Skoric who quickly took it to the rim fto tie the game 81-81. However, the Bombers were able to go down and score a quick Alderete layup to put them back on top 83-81 with three seconds left. Skidmore was able to drive it down the court but a last second three-point attempt by Skoric bounced off the rim and the Bombers held on to win 83-81.

"This program is not about moral victories," said Skidmore coach Joe Burke. "While I was happy with how we competed in the second half it was the lack of attention to detail that put us behind in the first. Huge lessons to be learned and If we are able to clean up a few things down the stretch we could be a tough out."

Skidmore is at Union College Feb 7 for more Liberty League action at 7:30 p.m.
