POTSDAM, N.Y. –
Riley Greene calmly sank a deep three-pointer with 0.4 seconds to play to give the Skidmore College basketball team a stunning 86-84 Liberty League road win over Clarkson University Friday night.
The Thoroughbreds improve to 4-9, 3-3 in Liberty League action, while the Golden Knights drop to 4-9, 2-4 in the league.
Tautvydas Kupstas dominated in scoring for Skidmore with a career high 31 points. Kupstas shot for 60% from the three-point line while shooting 62.5% from inside the arc. Greene added 17 points and seven rebounds.
Ty Lamport pulled down 10 rebounds.
The Golden Knights were led by Chris Hulbert who scored 19 points.
Clarkson quickly got up by nine points in the first five minutes. The Thoroughbreds battled back as
Harrison Eichelberger hit a three pointer with 9:17 left in the half to put Skidmore up 31-29. Clarkson held on to a narrow 50-47 lead going into halftime.
The Golden Knights came out hot to start the second half, gaining an eight-point lead. Skidmore cut it back to a one possession lead and the two Liberty League opponents battled back and forth for the rest of the game.
Up 84-83 with 20 seconds left, the Golden Knights turned the ball over on a shot clock violation. With time running out, Greene got the ball from way outside the arc and sailed one into the net for the 86-84 win.
The Thoroughbreds continue the North Country trip on Saturday at 4 p.m. against St. Lawrence.
