ALBANY, N.Y. – The Skidmore College volleyball team finished up the Sage Invite with a 2-1 record, dropping Saturday's contest to Oneonta by a 3-0 score (25-18, 26-24, 28-26) at Kahl Gymnasium.
Skidmore finishes the weekend with a 5-6 overall record. Oneonta improves to 12-3, winning its eighth straight match.
The Thoroughbreds fought valiantly against Oneonta, especially in the final two sets. The second set saw Skidmore match the Red Dragon runs. With the set tied at 24, Oneonta scored two straight points to take a 2-0 lead. In the final set, Skidmore jumped out to a 16-10 lead, but the Red Dragons fought to tie it up at 24. The Thoroughbreds took a 26-25 lead after a
Katy Ehnstrom kill, but Oneonta won the final three points to clinch the match.
Offensively, Ehnstrom led Skidmore with 11 kills.
Chelsea Winegar added eight kills to go along with seven digs.
Lauren Wolters tallied 26 assists to pace the Thoroughbred offense, adding a team-leading 14 digs on the defensive end.
Alex Estey added three total blocks.
Gilliam Stieglitz, Clara Culeton, and Victoria Moulder each tallied 12 kills to lead the Oneonta attack. Jessica Fowler added a game-high 41 assists.
Skidmore begins Liberty League action on the road next week, visiting RIT Friday at 7 p.m., before finishing the weekend at No. 24 Ithaca Saturday at 2 p.m.
