SCHENECTADY, N.Y. – The Skidmore College women's volleyball team earned a Saturday split, as it competed in the Union College Invitational, held at the Viniar Athletics Center. The Thoroughbreds defeated Plattsburgh State in four sets (23-25, 25-17, 25-20, 25-16) and fell to Williams in three (25-22, 25-11, 25-19).
Skidmore's record stands at 3-5.
MATCH ONE
The Thoroughbreds shook off a first set loss to Plattsburgh, dominating in three straight sets to earn the victory. In the fourth set, the Thoroughbreds hit an impressive .346, winning the set 25-16.
Four Thoroughbreds tallied double-doubles.
Chelsea Winegar led the team offensively with a 13-kill, 17-dig double-double.
Sophia Hettler also tallied a double-double, adding 10 kills and 15 digs.
Lauren Wolters was all over the court, adding 20 assists and 15 kills.
Audrey Powell led the team with 22 assists, adding 10 digs.
Alex Estey was solid in the air, contributing four total blocks, while adding eight kills.
MATCH TWO
Skidmore couldn't continue its momentum from the first match, falling to a strong Williams (7-1) squad in three sets. Wolters tallied her second double-double of Saturday, compiling 13 assists and 14 digs.
Frida Anguiano led the team with 17 digs. Offensively,
Katy Ehnstrom led the team with six kills, hitting .313. The senior also added a solo block.
UP NEXT
Skidmore will remain in the Capital Region, traveling to Albany next Friday and Saturday, Sept. 20-21 for the Sage College Invitational. The Thoroughbreds will face invitational host Sage (4 p.m.) and Elms (8 p.m.) on Friday, before finishing up with Oneonta on Saturday (10 a.m.).
