Thoroughbreds sweep St. Lawrence 10-0, 9-1

CANTON, N.Y.—The Skidmore College baseball team moved into a tie for the fifth and final Liberty League playoff spot with a 10-0, 9-1 sweep of St. Lawrence University Monday afternoon.

The Thoroughbreds are 19-12 overall and 9-9 in Liberty League play. The Saints are 7-25 and 5-15.

Skidmore is tied with Union College. The teams face each other four times this weekend to close out the regular season. The first two games are at Castle Diamond Saturday, starting at 12 p.m.

GAME 1

The Thoroughbreds went to the long ball with three home runs and a triple, scoring 10 runs on 18 hits.

Matt Chipkin, Jake Hardy, and Justin LaRose all went yard. Hardy had the at bat of game (maybe the season) when his shot capped off a 19-pitch at bat that included 15 foul balls.

Will Potter was 3-4 with an RBI, Hardy was 2-3 with three RBI, LaRose was 303 with an RBI, and Pat Geiger was 2-4 with a triple and two runs.

Spencer Meyer (2-0) tossed a complete game shutout. He allowed five hits, struck out eight and didn't allow a walk.

GAME 2

The second game went about the same as the first. Chipkin homered again, this time a three-run blast down the line in the first inning to put Skidmore up 3-1.

Playing as the home team, the Thoroughbreds scored one in the second and five more in the fifth to put the game away.

Chipkin finished 2-4 with two runs and three RBI. Geiger was 2-3 with a run and one RBI. Potter went 2-4 with an RBI.

Potter (2-1) got the complete game win. He went seven innings, allowing one run on six hits, with a career-high 10 strikeouts.
