SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – The Skidmore College men's tennis team won its fifth straight match, defeating Stevens by a 6-3 score at the Wenger Tennis Courts Saturday afternoon.
Skidmore, ranked 21
st in the latest ITA rankings, improves to 11-4 on the year. Stevens falls to 6-9.
The Thoroughbreds got a pair of doubles wins to take an early lead. At No. 2,
Jack McClaren and
Jason Keye defeated Mark Kanevsky and Gabriel Sifuentes by an 8-5 score. The pair improves to 11-6 on the season in all matches. At No. 3,
Travis Leaf and
Kevin Ha teamed up for the first time, defeating Garrett Kincaid and Keegan Morris by an 8-6 score.
The bottom of the lineup gave the Thoroughbreds a boost, as
Tristan Thiebaut picked up a 6-3, 6-1 win against Krishnan at No. 6, and
Connor Biernat defeated Sifuentes at No. 5, 6-1, 6-1. Needing one more point to clinch, the senior came through, as Leaf defeated Bryan Szayna at No. 2 by a 6-4, 6-3 score.
Suraj Mahtani also picked up a win at No. 4, defeating Morris by a 6-1, 7-6 (3) score.
Skidmore, having already clinched the Liberty League's top seed, returns to league action on Sunday, hosting Ithaca at the Wilton YMCA at 1 p.m.
