ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. – The Skidmore College women's lacrosse team bounced back in dominant fashion, pushing past Bard by a 21-8 score, in Liberty League action at Ferrari Field Saturday afternoon.
Skidmore, ranked 24
th in the latest Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) Division III rankings, improves to 6-3 overall, winning its third consecutive league game (3-1). Bard falls to 4-4 overall and 0-3 in league games.
Cas Szwajkowksi,
Amanda Orvis, and
Anna Boogaerts each tallied five points to lead the Thoroughbreds. Szwajkowski scored five goals to lead all goal scorers, tallying three or more goals for the seventh straight game. She also added seven draw controls. Boogaerts tallied four goals and added an assist, while
Amanda Orvis tallied her five points via three goals and two assists.
Emily Hirsch tallied a hat-trick with three goals, while
Grace Connerty and
Gianna Muscari each scored twice.
Lilla Seymour and
Louisa Vincent also entered the score book with goals.
Natalie LaBeau added two assists and caused three turnovers.
Caroline Kenlon made three saves in the first half for the win.
Nicki Eckert played the entire second half, keeping busy with seven saves.
Caleigh DeCaprio led Bard with five points, via four goals and one assist. Casey Witte added three goals. Izabel Kickner made 16 saves in the effort.
The Thoroughbreds struck first in the opening minute by a Szwajkowski goal, but the Raptors put an early scare into the Thoroughbreds, outscoring Skidmore 3-1 in a four-minute span, taking a 3-2 lead. The Thoroughbreds took control of the game from there, as three Orvis goals in 1:15 kicked off a 7-0 run. Bard broke the run with a goal at 14:35, but the Thoroughbreds answered with a 7-1 spurt to take a 16-5 lead. Witte scored for Bard with eight seconds remaining in the half as Skidmore held a 16-6 lead.
Bard scored first in the second half, but Skidmore kept adding to the lead, outscoring Bard by a 5-1 margin in the last 20:29. The Thoroughbreds had one of their biggest shot outputs this season, out-shooting the Raptors by a 44-19 margin. Skidmore was also near-perfect in transition, converting on 13-of-14 clear attempts. The Thoroughbreds forced 23 Bard turnovers on the defensive end.
Skidmore returns to action on Tuesday, visiting RPI in a 6 p.m. start.
