Thoroughbreds fall to No. 16 RPI

TROY, N.Y. – Senior Will Lukas led the Skidmore College men's lacrosse team with five points on three goals and two assists, but it wasn't enough as the Thoroughbreds fell to RPI by a 23-10 margin, in Liberty League action at East Campus Stadium Saturday afternoon.
 
The Thoroughbreds fall to 3-6 and 0-3 in Liberty League games. RPI, ranked 16th in the latest United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) Division III rankings, improves to 9-1 overall and 3-0 in conference.
 
Skidmore kept things close against the ranked Engineers, getting the opening goal from Alex Miller, his 17th of the season. RPI took the lead with three straight goals, with Lukas breaking the drought at 11:14. A Colby Farnham unassisted goal at the 4:16 mark of the opening quarter saw Skidmore trail by a 5-3 margin.
 
RPI went on a massive run from there, scoring 12 straight points between the first and third quarters, opening a 17-3 lead. Skidmore broke the RPI run with goals by Eric Megnia and Jason Shlonsky. The Thoroughbreds would score four times in the final quarter, but RPI added five more for the 23-10 margin.
 
The goals were spread out amongst the team in a balanced effort. Miller, Megnia Farnham, Shlonsky, Hudson Miller, Zach Skowronek, and Ryan Madalone scored for the Thoroughbreds along with Lukas, while Ward Mahoney and John Leitner added assists. Ben Glidden caused two turnovers.
 
Tim Rahill made 10 saves in the effort, playing the first 36:45. Benjamin Kacher came in for the final 23:15, making seven saves.
 
 J.T. Kelly led RPI with nine points, scoring six goals and adding three assists. Owen Putman added two goals and three assists for five points. Brian Doughty picked up the win for RPI in cage, making nine saves in 36:45.
 
Skidmore will look to bounce back this Wednesday, making the trip north to face Clarkson at 4 p.m.
