No. 24 Skidmore earns first league win, 15-4 over Rochester

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – In its first game as a ranked team in over 10 years the 24th-ranked Skidmore College women's lacrosse team took care of business, scoring early and often in a 15-4 victory over the University of Rochester, in Liberty League action at Wachenheim Field on a wet Friday afternoon.
 
Skidmore, ranked 24th in the latest Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) rankings, improved to 4-2 on the season, earning its first Liberty League victory (1-1). Rochester falls to 2-3, dropping its league opener.
 
The goals came fast and furious for the fired-up Thoroughbreds, as Anna Boogaerts got the scoring going with a pair of unassisted goals in the first 1:29. Abby Sanford scored 23 seconds later off a Shelby Boland feed to make it 3-0. Boland then fed Emily Hirsch at the 26:47 mark to increase the lead to 4-0.
 
Boogarts tallied her third goal in just over eight minutes on a woman-up chance from the free position, and the Skidmore rout was on. The Thoroughbreds jumped out to a 9-0 run in the first 19:32 of the game, before Rochester responded. Hirsch (woman-up) and Natalie LaBeau tallied unassisted goals in the final 3:03, as Skidmore went to halftime with a commanding 11-1 lead.
 
Scoring was more even in the second half with Rochester scoring thrice, but Cas Szwajkowski and Lilla Seymour kept the Yellowjackets out of reach, scoring a pair of goals each.
 
Boogaerts led Skidmore with five points, scoring four goals and adding an assist. Szwajkowski tallied three goals, scoring three or more goals for the fourth straight game. LaBeau tallied three points, via two goals and an assist. Hirsch and Seymour also scored twice, while Sanford and Vivian Foley each tallied two points on a goal and assist. Boland tallied two assists, while Zoe Rafalowski-Houseman added an assist to complete the scoring.
 
Rafalowski-Houseman and Erin Mah led Skidmore with three ground balls, while LaBeau and Louisa Vincent led with two caused turnovers. Hirsch led with six draw controls, as Skidmore earned 15 out of 21 draws in the afternoon.
 
Caroline Kenlon needed just four saves in 49:56 to earn her fourth win of the season. Nicki Eckert made her season debut, stopping two shots in 10:04. Skidmore outshot Rochester by a 28-17 score, and was solid on defense, forcing the Yellowjackets to clear just 13 of their 21 attempts.
 
Marina Kern led Rochester with three goals.
 
Skidmore will complete the weekend at home, hosting RIT at Wachenheim Field on Saturday at 3 p.m.
