ITHACA, N.Y.—The Skidmore College women's lacrosse team opened Liberty League play with tight 14-11 road loss to #19 ranked Ithaca College Sunday afternoon.
The Thoroughbreds are 3-2 overall and 0-1 in league play, while the Bombers move to 3-2 and 1-0.
Skidmore's Caz Szwajkowski picked-up her 200
th career point with her third goal of the game. The talented senior has exactly 200 points with 181 goals and 19 assists. She had three goals and nine draw controls.
Natalie LaBeau had three goals and an assist, while
Amanda Orvis added two goals and an assist for the Thoroughbreds.
Ithaca opened the game with five straight goals in the first 10:13. Skidmore settled down and got back into it with three straight goals from
Szawjkowski and a tally from
Shelby Boland to cut the deficit to 5-4 with 12:41 left in the half. Skidmore scored two (LaBeau and
Lilla Seymour) of the next three goals to tie it 6-6. Â
It stayed a one-goal game until the Bombers four out of five over an eight-minute span in the second half to go up 12-9 with 13:07 left.
Skidmore cut it to two twice on goals by Orvis and LaBeau, but Ithaca held on for the 14-11 win.
Ithaca had a 36-27 shot advantage.
Caroline Kenlon had 13 saves in goal for the Thoroughbreds.
Skidmore is home next weekend for Liberty League games against Rochester (March 22-4 p.m.) and RIT (March 23-3 p.m.).
