FT. MYERS, Fla.—The Skidmore College baseball team opened the season with a split against Haverford College. The Thoroughbreds dropped the first game 13-6 and came back to win the second 7-4.
In the first game, the Fords took a 6-0 lead before Skidmore bounced back with three in the third. Haverford responded with two in the third, two in the fourth and three in the fifth for a 13-3 lead. The Thoroughbreds added three in the seventh for the 13-6 final.
Skidmore catcher Pat Geiger went 2-4 with two RBI.
Sam Browning hit the team's first home run of the season, a solo shot in the third.
In the second game, the Thoroughbreds road a five-run second inning and a strong pitching performance from
Jay Gamboa for the 7-4 win.
Gamboa went 6 1/3, allowing four runs, two earned with six strikeouts. Geiger was 3-4 with a solo home run and
Will Potter went 2-3 with three RBI, including a two-run double.
Skidmore plays a single game on Monday at 9 a.m. vs. Wisconsin Lutheran College.
