TROY, N.Y. – Senior forward
Taylor Ong of the Skidmore College women's basketball team has been named the Liberty League's Performer of the Week this Monday, after leading the Thoroughbreds to a pair of victories this past weekend.
It's the first such honor for Ong in her career. She's been named to the league's honor roll on Jan. 7 and Jan. 14.
Ong made a big impact on the court for the Thoroughbreds on the road, averaging 17.0 points and 11.0 rebounds per game against Ithaca and Bard. Ong dropped 17 points and eight rebounds in Skidmore's dramatic, come-from-behind victory at Ithaca on Friday. She then followed it up with her third double-double of the season, scoring 17 points and adding 14 rebounds and one steal in the blowout victory at Bard.
Ong is averaging 8.0 points and 8.1 rebounds per game this season. She's been on a tear as of late, averaging 10.5 points and 10.0 rebounds per game since the beginning of January.
Skidmore (7-14, 6-8 Liberty League) got off to a great start on this crucial road swing, defeating Ithaca by a 61-59 score on Friday, then beating Bard by a 72-43 score on Saturday. The Thoroughbreds will play their final road games of the regular season this upcoming weekend, facing William Smith on Friday at 5 p.m. and RIT on Saturday at 2 p.m.
