CANTON, N.Y. – The 28
th-ranked Skidmore College men's tennis team won its second straight Liberty League match of the spring, sweeping St. Lawrence 9-0 in league action at the Newell Field House Saturday afternoon.
Skidmore (2-1, 2-0 Liberty League) has won 31 consecutive Liberty League regular season matches. St. Lawrence (0-1, 0-1) drops its dual opener.
Travis Leaf and
Connor Biernat began things with an 8-2 win over SLU's Nico Haet and Joshua Marvald at second doubles.
Jason Keye and
Jack McClaren picked up their second doubles dual victory of the season with an 8-3 triumph over Arman Tavana and Spencer Whitmire at No. 3.
JT Wynne and
Suraj Mahtani ran into a little trouble, but earned Skidmore a doubles sweep with the 8-6 win over Leo Romanetz and Quinn Bermingham at the top spot.
In singles,
Connor Biernat and Mahtani picked up impressive sweeps. Biernat smoked Bermingham in straight sets at No. 5, while Mahtani equaled the mark against Jordan Mamelak at No. 4. Wynne swept the first set en route to a 6-0, 6-4 win over Haet at No. 1. Tristian Thiebaut also won in straight sets, defeating Tavana 6-4, 6-4 at No. 6. Leaf and McClaren needed three sets, but both were able to prevail. McClaren defeated Romanetz 6-2, 2-6, 10-8 at No. 2, while Leaf survived a tough challenge from Whitmire, 7-6, 4-6, 11-9 at No. 3.
Skidmore will finish the weekend at RIT, in Rochester Sunday at 3 p.m.
