WILTON, N.Y. – The 28
th-ranked Skidmore College men's tennis team returned to action with a dominating 8-1 victory over Liberty League foe Vassar, in league action at the Wilton YMCA Saturday afternoon.
Skidmore (1-1, 1-0 Liberty League) wins the league opener, while Vassar (3-2, 2-1) drops its first league match of the season.
Skidmore swept doubles to take an early lead.
JT Wynne and
Suraj Mahtani got things started with an 8-3 victory over Allen Sokolov and Jeremy Auh at No. 1, while
Jack McClaren and
Jason Keye won 8-2 at third doubles.
Noah Williamson and
Travis Leaf grinded out an 8-7 win over Adam Krueger and David Gandham to take the advantage into singles action.
Skidmore won five of six singles matches to finish the win. Wynne breezed through his match at No. 1, defeating Gandham 6-1, 6-0. McClaren (6-3, 6-0) and Leaf (6-4, 6-0) dominated in the second sets of their victories. Mahtani (6-1, 6-2) and Tristian Thiebaut (6-3, 6-2) also earned wins at four and six, respectively.
Skidmore will travel to St. Lawrence in its next match, on Saturday, Feb. 23 at 3 p.m.
