Thoroughbreds Dominate in 72-47 win over RIT

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – Rookies Tautvydas Kupstas and Riley Greene combined for 45 points to pave the way for the Skidmore College men's basketball team Saturday evening in its 72-47 Liberty League victory over RIT.

The Thoroughbreds are 2-4 and 1-1 in the Liberty League, while the Tigers drop to 4-3 and 1-1.

Kupstas led Skidmore with a career high 28 points and eight rebounds. Greene followed with a career high 17 points and a game-high nine assists to go along with six rebounds. Senior Pat Gallagher recorded a season-high of 16 points and six rebounds.

The Tigers were led by Cobey Adekanbi who scored 14 points and pulled down eight rebounds.

The Thoroughbreds were methodical as they picked apart a physical RIT team. The team had multiple scoring runs including one with back to back three pointers by Kupstas and Greene. Kupstas shot 50% from beyond the arc while Greene shot 66.6% from the three-point range in the first half to help the Thoroughbreds outscore the Tigers 37-27. The Skidmore defense caused eight turnovers resulting in 10 points. Ty Lamport was responsible for two key turnovers in the second half to help seal the Thoroughbreds 72-47 victory.

"I'm really happy for the guys and proud of how they responded after last night," said Skidmore coach Joe Burke.  "As you can imagine it was not an easy conversation after the game and in film this morning. It's good to see that they can put together this kind of effort when they really needed it.

"With this roster we are going to have plenty of ups and downs as we grow. Some nights we will make shots and win comfortably but some nights we won't and we need to figure out how to still win the games. It's part of the maturation process of this group."

The Thoroughbreds face more Liberty League action when they travel to Poughkeepsie Dec 11 to face Vassar at 7:30 p.m.
