Thoroughbreds Stumble Against Stevens

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – Despite a close first half, the Skidmore College men's basketball team couldn't find the answers to Stevens second-half scoring drives in a 67-55 loss Saturday afternoon at the Williamson Sports Center.

The Thoroughbreds drop to 0-2 while the Ducks move to 2-0.

Greg Skoric led the team in scoring with 14 points. Skoric also tallied two blocks, one steal, and four rebounds. Pat Gallagher put an additional 12 points on the board alongside four rebounds and one steal. Ryan Murunge led the team with eight rebounds, while getting two steals.

Alec DiPietrantonio led the Ducks with 24 points and nine rebounds. He also had two blocks. Spencer Cook added 16 points.

Skidmore kept in close in the first half, going into the locker room down by three, 30-27. The Thoroughbreds shot 32.3% from the field and out rebounded the Ducks 20-18. Despite out shooting the Ducks from beyond the arc, the Thoroughbreds couldn't find the answer to the Ducks' 45.5% shooting from the field in the second half. Stevens outscored Skidmore 37-28 in the second half to secure the 67-55 victory.

"Not the result we wanted but I thought we took some positive steps today," said head coach Joe Burke. "This group has a lot learning and developing to do, it's not their fault it's just where we are right now.

"Stevens is a very good basketball team as is Middlebury next Saturday," Burke continued. "I am confident in the ability of these players and really think this tough schedule will benefit us in league play. We just need to continue to make progress and grow."

The Thoroughbreds return to the Williamson Sports Center to take on Middlebury College in a non-conference contest next Saturday at 4 p.m.
