Thoroughbreds fall on the road, 3-0

HENNIGER, N.H.—New England College broke open a 1-0 game with two late third period goals for a 3-0 New England Hockey Conference win over Skidmore College Saturday evening.

The teams split the season series with the Thoroughbreds winning the first meeting, 5-2 on Nov. 16 in Saratoga.

The loss leaves Skidmore in sixth place in the NEHC with an 11-8-2 overall and 7-5-2 league record. The Thoroughbreds have clinched a playoff spot and sit in sixth place with 16 points, only three points out of third with four games to play.

The Pilgrims extended their unbeaten streak to 14 games to improve to 13-3-5 overall and 7-5-2 in the NEHC.

Nikita Pintusov got the eventual game-winner at 4:09 of the first.

Both teams killed off major penalties in the scoreless second period that featured a combined 38 shots on goal.

Keenan Haase scored his second and third goals of the season at 13:30 and 16:41 of the third period to seal the game for NEC.

The Pilgrims had a 44-31 shot advantage. Brendan Kasel had 41 saves, including 22 in the second period.

Skidmore plays its final four regular season games at home, starting with a Feb. 1 match-up with league leader UMASS Boston at 7 p.m. That game will be part of Hockey Night in Saratoga.
