TROY, N.Y. – Junior center
Lilly Berg of the Skidmore College women's basketball team was named to the Liberty League honor roll after a solid showing this past week, as the league announced its weekly award winners on Monday, Jan. 21.
It's the first collegiate weekly award for Berg, who was solid as a starter and as a substitute, leading the Thoroughbreds in three games this past week. Berg averaged 13.7 points, 5.3 rebounds, and 1.7 blocked shots per game, while shooting an impressive 70.3 percent (19-for-27) from the field. At Vassar on Tuesday, Berg shot a perfect 5-for-5 from the field coming off the bench, scoring 10 points while adding two steals and two blocked shots. Against Bard on Friday the junior scored a career-high 17 points, adding nine rebounds and two assists. She finished the weekend with a 14-point, five-rebound, two-block showing against Ithaca on Saturday.
The scoring binge upped Berg's season average to 6.3 points per game. She's second on the team in rebounds (5.3 rpg) and is tied for the team lead with 10 blocked shots.
Skidmore (5-12, 4-6 Liberty League) went 1-2 this week, falling to Liberty League leaders Vassar and Ithaca, but defeating Bard by a 74-48 score. Skidmore, sitting sixth in the Liberty League standings, will welcome Capital Region foes Union and RPI to the Williamson Sports Center this upcoming weekend.
