SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – The Skidmore College men's tennis team began dual play this afternoon, falling to seventh-ranked Amherst by an 8-1 score, in non-league tennis action at the Wenger Courts.
Skidmore, ranked 29
th by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA), falls to 0-1. Amherst earns the win in its first dual match of the season.
Skidmore's lone victory came in doubles. The pair of sophomore
Suraj Mahtani and freshman
Noah Williamson earned the narrow 9-7 victory at No. 2 over Sean Wei and Damien Ruparel. At No. 3, juniors
Jason Keye and
Jack McClaren battled, but had a hard-fought loss to Kevin Ma and William Turchetta, 8-6.
Amherst swept five of the six singles matches in straight sets, but Williamson took his opponent to a third set, playing second singles. The freshman would eventually fall to Wei by a 6-4, 4-6, 6-0 score.
Skidmore will head to Williamstown, Mass. for the Williams Invitational Sunday morning.
