ITHACA, N.Y. – The 26th-ranked Skidmore College men's tennis team remained unbeaten in Liberty League play, thanks to an 8-1 victory at Ithaca in league action at the Glazer Arena Sunday afternoon. The Thoroughbreds are a perfect 6-0 in the league.
Skidmore (8-3, 6-0 Liberty League) wins its 36th straight league match, in both the regular season and the postseason. The Thoroughbreds will visit Union in its next match on Wednesday, April 4 at 4 p.m. Ithaca (2-5, 2-1 Liberty League) drops its first league match of the season and will next travel to Hobart on Thursday, March 29 at 4 p.m.
Skidmore swept the three doubles matches to stake a 3-0 lead. The fourth-ranked duo of
Steven Koulouris and
JT Wynne earned an 8-5 win at No. 1, defeating Sam McGrath and Lorenzo Viguie-Ramos.
Lucas Pickering and
Travis Leaf would outlast Minos Stavrakas and Colten Lavery at No. 2 by an 8-6 score.
Jack McClaren and
Jason Keye would earn an 8-2 win at No. 3 for the sweep.
In singles,
Ted Berkowitz would earn Skidmore's fourth point with a 6-1, 6-4 victory against Max Prestwich at No. 4, then Leaf clinched the match with a 6-1, 6-3 victory at No. 3 against Lavery.
Suraj Mahtani was dominant at No. 5 with a 6-0, 6-2 win against Liam Spiegel and
Yuqi Wang earned his second collegiate victory with a 7-6 (8-6), 7-5 win against Sam Fried at No. 6. 10th-ranked
JT Wynne faced stiff competition in the first set at No. 2 against McGrath, but eventually pulled off the straight set victory, 7-6 (7-2), 6-4.
