TROY, N.Y.—The Skidmore College baseball team closed out its Liberty League opening series with Rensselaer on Sunday, losing 4-3 in nine innings and 3-0 in the final.

The Thoroughbreds are 6-7 overall and 1-3 in Liberty League play. The Engineers are 7-6 and 3-1.

In the first game, RPI scored an unearned run in the seventh to tie it and force extra innings and won it in the ninth with a full count double.

Mike Fogarty scored in the first for the Thoroughbreds on a fielder's choice. After a pair or RPI runs in the fourth, Skidmore tacked on a pair of unearned runs in the fifth. The Engineers forced extra innings with an unearned run in the seventh.

In the ninth, RPI's Eric Meister doubled to center field to drive in the winning run. Center fielder
Matt Chipkin made a great attempt at the ball.

Will Potter was 2-5 with two runs. Fogerty went 1-3 with two RBI. Starter
Jay Gamboa went six innings, allowing three runs (two earned) on six hits and five walks. He struck out two.
Andrew Aikins had an inning of scoreless relief. Chris Reenstierna took the loss.

In the second game, the Thoroughbreds were held to five hits, all singles. Potter reached base twice, going 1-2 with a walk.
Spencer Meyer had the hard luck loss, going five innings. He allowed three runs on seven hits, striking out three and walking none.
Jack Walter had a scoreless inning of relief.

Skidmore is scheduled to host Castleton in a single game on Wednesday at 4 p.m.
