No. 26 Skidmore edges No. 27 RPI, 5-4

Thoroughbreds win 35th straight Liberty League match

WILTON, N.Y. – Sophomore Jack McClaren won a crucial match at fourth singles, clinching the 5-4 victory for the No. 26 Skidmore College men's tennis team against Liberty League rival, No. 27 RPI in league action at the Wilton YMCA Saturday afternoon.

Skidmore (7-3, 5-0 Liberty League) keeps its winning streak alive versus league opponents with its 35th consecutive victory in both regular and postseason play. The Thoroughbreds will head to Ithaca on Sunday for another league match at 1 p.m. RPI (7-2, 2-1) sees its four-match win streak end. They will travel to face The College of New Jersey on Sunday at 11 a.m.
 
With the score tied at four, the match fell into the hands of the sophomore at fourth singles. After dropping the first set to Brian Niguidula by a 6-4 margin, McClaren rallied, outlasting Niguidula in the second set, 7-6. The third set was all McClaren, as he finished the match with a 6-2 win in the first set, clinching the team victory.
 
RPI would win two of its three matches in doubles, putting early pressure on the Thoroughbreds. Skidmore would get its lone point at No. 1. In a rematch of the ITA Northeast Region Men's Division III double title match, the pair of JT Wynne and Steven Koulouris got its second win against RPI's Sebastian Castillo-Sanchez and Andre Imrie, this time by an 8-2 margin.
 
Skidmore won four of its six matches in singles to come back in the victory, with Koulouris, Wynne, and Travis Leaf earning victories in straight sets. Koulouris defeated Castillo-Sanchez at No. 1 by a 6-4, 6-2 score, with Wynne earning a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Imrie at No. 2. Leaf defeated Clay Thompson, 6-1, 6-3 at No. 3.
