SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – The Skidmore College women's basketball team is back in action after a 10-day break this weekend, beginning Liberty League action this weekend against St. Lawrence and Clarkson. The Thoroughbreds begin the weekend with a visit to St. Lawrence on Friday at 5 p.m., and will end with a short trip to Clarkson at 2 p.m. on Saturday.
Skidmore (1-4) has played one of the toughest non-conference schedules so far, taking on a sixth-ranked Tufts team and facing Oneonta and Muhlenberg, teams that are receiving votes in the latest d3hoops.com weekly national poll. Jessica Centore (11) tallied double-figure points, and senior forward
Taylor Ong and freshman forward
Clare Driscoll each tallied nine points apiece.
Senior guard
Haley English leads the team in scoring with 8.8 points per game and assists with 2.8 dimes per contest. Tsutsui is second at 6.6 points per game. Ong leads the team in rebounding with 8.0 caroms per game, while Centore leads the team in steals (13) and blocked shots (four).
St. Lawrence comes into the weekend with a 2-2 record. They've lost the last two games to Plattsburgh State and Albertus Magnus, but have an impressive victory over then- No. 24 Montclair State. The Saints have a pair of double-digit scorers in Chelsea Van Tassel (12.0 ppg) and Katie Frederick (11.8 ppg). Frederick also leads the team in rebounding with an impressive 11.5 boards per game. Dylan Watkiss leads the team with 2.0 assists per contest.
Last season, the Thoroughbreds swept St. Lawrence and have won eight of the last nine games between the two teams.
Clarkson comes into the weekend with a 1-2 record, sandwiching a dominant victory over SUNY Canton with losses to Oswego and Potsdam. The Golden Knights will host RPI on Friday before Skidmore comes to town on Saturday.
Leading the Golden Knights is Carly Assimon, who has a team leading 15.7 points on 46.2 percent shooting from the field and 45.8 percent shooting from 3-point range. She's supported by double-digit scorers Molly Stewart (13.0) and Hannah Earl (10.3). Kati Gotch leads the team with 7.0 rebounds per contest.
Skidmore engineered a season sweep against Clarkson in 2017-18 and have won the last four regular season contests between the two teams.
