POTSDAM, N.Y. – The Skidmore College men's swimming and diving team rallied late to remain undefeated on the season, edging out Potsdam 156-138 Saturday afternoon.
Skidmore finishes the opening weekend at 2-0, while Potsdam falls to 1-1.
With two events to go and the score tied at 129, Skidmore pulled ahead with a dominating performance in the 200-yard IM.
Hiro Kamei (2:07.59),
Lucas Po (2:13.75), and
Daryl Kwan (2:15.49) went 1-2-3 for the Thoroughbreds as they surged ahead. Skidmore capped things off with a win in the 200-yard freestyle relay, as
Nick Meconiates,
Carl Mellqvist,
Carmine Raimondi, and
Harrison Shockley edged Potsdam by .20 seconds. A surge by Shockley proved to be the difference, as the anchor leg ran his 50 in 22.79 seconds as the team finished in 1:34.90.
The finish capped off an exciting meet throughout. In the first event, the 200-yard medley relay, Shockley,

Kinser Bonner, and
Ryan Cohen fell short by just one-hundredths of a second, finishing in 1:41.63.
Four Thoroughbreds – Kamei, Po, Shockley, and
Andrew Klein – won multiple individual events to lead the squad. Kamei won the aforementioned 200-yard IM, pairing that up with a double in the breaststroke, winning the 100-yard event (1:00.01) after a strong rally in the final 50 yards, and dominating in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:19.54). Po had a strong day in the freestyle, winning both the 1,000-yard freestyle (10:45.95) and the 500-yard freestyle (5:15.68). Shockley won his two events via the backstroke, touching first in the 100- (57.17) and 200-yard (2:05.86) events. Klein dominated on the boards, winning both the 1-(201.20) and 3-meter (169.65) events.
Other notable finishes include a convincing performance by Bonner in the 200-yard butterfly, as a strong start led him to a 2:08.47 finish. Cohen won in more dramatic fashion in the 100-yard freestyle, holding off a charging Ryan Hagadorn of Potsdam in the final 50 yards, winning by 0.05 seconds (51.90). Bonner (56.82), Cohen (56.21) and Mellqvist (1:00.78) also had a solid performance in the 100-yard butterfly.
