MEET RESULTS
CANTON, N.Y. – The men's swimming and diving team opened the 2018-19 season with a 120-100 victory over Liberty League foe St. Lawrence, held at the Augsbury Pool Friday night.
It was the season opener for both teams.
The Thoroughbreds had a strong performance in the relays tonight, winning both the 200-yard freestyle and the 200-yard medley events. In the medley relay,
Kinser Bonner, Kiro Kamei,
Carmine Raimondi, and
Carl Mellqvist finished with a winning time of 1:45.20. In the 200-yard freestyle relay,
Nick Meconiates,
Harrison Shockley,
Ryan Cohen, and
Lucas Po edged out St. Lawrence with a time of 1:37.39.
Competing in his first collegiate match, Cohen was a double winner. Along with his 24.50 split in the 200-yard freestyle, he eked out a victory in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 59.32. Other winners included
Lucas Po, who breezed to victory with a 10.43.41 in the 1,000-yard freestyle. In the 50-yard freestyle, Shockley fell just short, but still posted a strong second-place finishing time of 23.32. Raimondi nearly earned himself a second win, but was edged in the 100-yard butterfly by SLU's Isaac Brinkman, as Raimondi posted a time of 59.11.
Hiro Kamei placed second in two events, the 500-yard freestyle (5:16.93) and the 200-yard freestyle (1:56.39).
Andrew Klein led the Thoroughbreds on the boards, posting a score of 187.05 in the 1-meter dive and 192.00 on the 3-meter platform.
The Thoroughbreds wrap up the opening weekend with a visit to Potsdam, at 1 p.m. on Saturday.
