SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – The Skidmore College volleyball team was near perfect in a pair of sweeps in day one of the Skidmore Classic, held at the Williamson Sports Center Friday evening. The Thoroughbreds opened with a 3-0 (25-23, 25-15, 25-16) victory over Lasell and wrapped up Friday's action with a 3-0 (25-15, 25-19, 25-17) win against Hunter.
Skidmore has won seven of the last eight matches to improve to 9-6 on the season. The Thoroughbreds close out the Skidmore Classic with matchups against New Rochelle (10 a.m.) and Cortland (2 p.m.).
The Thoroughbreds hit .309 as a team in their opening victory against Lasell.
Katy Ehnstrom led the attack with 11 kills, adding three blocks, while
Bailey Hutchins added nine kills and 12 digs.
Clara Jones tallied a pair of aces and
Lauren Wolters chipped in 34 assists.
Against Hunter, the Thoroughbreds got off to hot starts in each set to pull away for the sweep. Ehnstrom once again led with 13 kills, adding three blocks, while
Caite Canfield tallied a double-double with 12 kills and 15 digs, adding three aces.
Allie Dillon led the way defensively with 17 digs, and
Rachel Licata and
Sophia Hettler each chipped in three blocks.
