SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y.—Freshman
Jay Gamboa threw a four-hit shutout to lead the Skidmore College baseball team to a 3-0 Liberty League win over Union College in the first of two played at Castle Diamond. The Dutchmen held off the Thoroughbreds 5-3 in the night cap.

Skidmore is 6-6 overall and 1-3 in Liberty League play, while the Dutchmen are 5-6 and 3-1.

After allowing three hits in the first inning, Gamboa worked out of trouble and allowed just one hit over the final six innings. He walked two and struck out two.

The Thoroughbreds scored one in the first on
Josh Brown's RBI single.Â
Shawn Klier doubled to open the second and later scored on a
Nick Fronte double. Fronte scored on an infield single by
Daniel Dasgupta  for what would be the 3-0 final.

Dasgupta had two of Skidmore's six hits.

Andy Labeck was 2-3 for Union. Ryan Kuchar had the complete game loss. He allowed three runs on six hits with two walks and four strikeouts.

In the second game, Skidmore found itself batting in the sixth, down 4-0.
Patrick Geiger lead off with a solid home run to left to start a three-run rally.
Hayden Smith had a pinch hit RBI single that produced two runs with a wild overthrow on a play at third.

Union got an insurance run in the seventh on a Jake Vesling double.

The Thoroughbreds threatened in the bottom of the seventh, but Bill Christopher shut the door for his first save of the season.

Spencer Anderson took the loss. He allowed four runs over 5 2/3.

Josh Garber e won his first game of the season, he allowed three runs (two earned) on four hits with two walks and no strikeouts in 5 1/3.

Skidmore will host Clarkson in a make-up doubleheader on Wednesday at 2 p.m.
