AMSTERDAM, N.Y.—The Skidmore College baseball team returned to the diamond for the first time in more than two weeks, dropping a Liberty League pair to Union College, 7-1 and 12-9 at Shuttleworth Park.

The Thoroughbreds are 5-5 and 0-2 in league play, while the Dutchmen are 4-5 and 2-0.

The teams will play another doubleheader on Monday at Castle Diamond, starting at 2 p.m.

In the first game, Union grabbed a quick 4-0 first inning lead. Pat Geiger got Skidmore on the board with a solo home run in the fourth. The Dutchmen tacked on three in the sixth for the 7-1 final.

Andrew Aikins (2-1) lost for the first time this season. He gave up seven runs (six earned) on seven hits, walking eight and striking out six over 6 2/3 innings.

The Thoroughbreds got off to the quick start in the second game, scoring two in the first and one in the second for a 3-0 lead.
Josh Brown hit a two-run homer in the first and
Steven Gilbert had an RBI single in the second.

The Dutchmen scored single runs in the second and third to cut it to 3-2. Catcher
Hayden Smith had an RBI single in the fifth to give Skidmore a 4-2 edge. Union took its first lead of the game, 5-4 with three in the sixth.

The Thoroughbreds responded with four in the seventh for an 8-5 lead. Geiger had the big hit with a two-run single.

Union came back with six in its half of the seventh and added one in the eighth on the way to the 12-9 final.

Brown led the Thoroughbreds, going 4-5 with four RBI, two runs, a double and a home run. Â Gilbert finished 2-4 with three runs and an RBI.

Chris Reenstiern (0-1) took the loss in relief.
