Skidmore wins fourth straight with 10-5 victory over Geneseo

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – The Skidmore College men's lacrosse team used a strong second quarter to earn its fourth straight victory, a 10-5 triumph over SUNY Geneseo in non-league action at Wachenheim Field on a rainy Tuesday afternoon.
 
Skidmore earns its fourth straight victory, the longest since a six-game streak in 2011, to improve to 5-3. Geneseo drops to 4-2.
 
Cody Legeza tallied four points on three goals and an assist to pace the Thoroughbreds. Brendan Halloran tallied a pair of goals and Justin Csenge, Paddy Fallon, Ward Mahoney, Colby Farnham, and Ian Maag each tallied a goal. Will Lukas tallied on three goals, and Csenge, Jack Curry, and Jack Metzler provided an assist each.
 
Ryan Warnock had a great afternoon in the midfield, picking up 10 ground balls. He also went 11-for-16 on face-offs, winning his first eight in a row in the first half. Chris Baughan made 14 saves to pick up the victory. He also picked up three ground balls and caused a turnover.
 
Zachary DeBottis scored a goal and added an assist to lead the Knights. Michael Yehl made 17 saves in the decision.
 
Defense reigned supreme early on with the two teams scoreless for the first 13:32 of the game. Skidmore broke the scoreless tie with a Csenge tally with 1:28 remaining. Geneseo tied the game early in the second quarter, but Skidmore scored four unanswered goals to take a 5-1 lead into halftime.
 
After Geneseo scored to open the second half, Legeza tallied a pair of goals, including a man-up tally, to push the lead to 8-2. The teams split four goals in the fourth quarter to wrap the scoring.
 
For the fourth straight game, the Thoroughbreds were solid on the ride, forcing 18 Geneseo turnovers. Geneseo was also 16-for-24 on clear attempts, while Skidmore was 20-for-23. The Thoroughbreds outshot the Knights by a 42-27 tally and went 1-for-3 on extra man opportunities.
 
Skidmore returns to Liberty League play on Saturday, heading to Kingston, N.Y. to take on Bard. Game time is slated for 7 p.m.
