ENGLEWOOD, Fla. – A big second half by No. 18 Wesleyan was too much for the Skidmore College women's lacrosse team as the Thoroughbreds fell 21-10 in non-league action at Ann Dever Park on Monday.
The Thoroughbreds fall to 2-2 with the loss, while Wesleyan improves to a perfect 4-0.
Cas Szwajkowski led the Thoroughbreds with four goals on six shots, adding an assist.
Gianna Muscari and
Tyler Phillips each added two points on two goals.
Vivian Foley and
Natalie LaBeau wrapped up the scoring with goals.
Phillips,
Allison Byrne, and
Megan Kolopsky each tallied two ground balls, while Phillips, Muscari, LaBeau, and
Kathleen Hanna each won two draws. Kolopsky made four saves in net in 34:54 of game time in the decision.
Caroline Kenlon made two saves in 14:21 of action, while
Nicki Eckert (5:14) and
Taylor Goodwill (5:31) each made a save in their season debuts.
Abby Manning tallied seven points on five goals and two assists and Meredith Smith scored five goals to lead Wesleyan. Grace McCann made eight saves in 49:15 to earn the victory.
The first half was a tight affair between the two teams. After Wesleyan came out with a 3-1 lead in the first 2:54 of play, Szwajkowski and Phillips tallied goals to tie the game at three. After Wesleyan took a three-goal lead at 9-6 with 2:30 to go in the first half, Szwajkowski scored at 1:15 as the teams went to halftime with Wesleyan holding the 9-7 lead.
Skidmore scored to begin the second half on a LaBeau tally 41 seconds in. Wesleyan then scored 12 unanswered goals to hold a commanding 21-8 lead. Muscari broke the drought, scoring two goals to end the scoring.
Wesleyan outshot Skidmore 32-20 and won the battle of the draw controls, 21-11. Skidmore converted on 10-of-13 clear attempts.
The Thoroughbreds will wrap up their spring trip with a matchup against Stevenson on Thursday at 2:30 p.m.
