Troy, N.Y. – The Skidmore College swimming and diving team fell to a ranked RPI side in Liberty League dual action at the Robison Pool on Saturday afternoon.
The women (3-5, 1-4 Liberty League) fell to No. 23 RPI (6-1, 4-0 Liberty League) by a 164-97 score, while the men side (4-4, 2-3 Liberty League) fell to the No. 23 Engineers (7-0, 4-0 Liberty League) by a 166-97 margin.
Harrison Shockley was the lone event winner with a strong performance in the 100-yard backstroke (55.18). He also finished second in the 50-yard backstroke (25.68).
A number of swimmers posted lifetime-best marks in the pool on Saturday.
Benjamin Rudman posted career-high marks in two events, the 200-yard freestyle (1:52.62) and the 100-yard breaststroke (1:05.49). He finished in second in both events.
Maddie Collins also swam a career-best 11:52.47 in the 1,000-yard freestyle, finishing in 3rd place.
In other events,
Gabriel Salitan-Alvarez picked up two second-place finishes, in 100-yard freestyle (51.04) and the 500-yard freestyle (5:13.71).
Claire Stetten also picked up two second-place finishes in the 50-yard freestyle (26.84) and the 50-yard butterfly (28.45).
Other second place finishes include
Elizabeth Levy's performance in the 200-yard freestyle (2:09.54),
Meredith Wagner's performance in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:14.41), and
Erin Donovan's finish in the 50-yard backstroke (30.48).
There was an exciting finish in the 100-yard backstroke, with
Jazmin Rendon (1:06.18),
Claire Stetten (1:06.21), and Donovan (1:06.31) finishing 2-3-4 respectively, all within 0.14 of each other.
On the diving boards,
Hannah Krall notched two second-place finishes, scoring 148.60 on the 1-meter platform and 192.85 on the 3-meter event.
Kevin Brito nearly took home first in both dives, finishing 12 points off in the 1-meter event (220.25) and 20 points away in the 3-meter event (259.10).
The Thoroughbreds will close their home portion of the schedule, as they honor their seniors at the Skidmore Sprint Invite next Saturday at 1 p.m.
