Thoroughbreds take two against Bard

RESULTS

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – The Skidmore College swimming and diving team dominated in the water, as both teams defeated Bard in Liberty League action at the Williamson Sports Center on Wednesday.
 
On the women's side, the Thoroughbreds defeated the Raptors 127-82 to improve to 3-4 in dual action on the season. On the men's side, the Thoroughbreds picked up the 139-63 victory to improve to 4-3.
 
The Thoroughbreds touched first in 19 of the 26 events to pick up the sweep. On the women's side, Meredith Wagner, Claire Stetten, Erin Donovan, Elizabeth Levy, and Jazmin Rendon each finished with two victories. Donovan and Rendon teamed up with Emily Matsuda and Caroline Tuttle to dominate in the 200-yard medley relay, racing in 2:05.81. Rendon also dominated in the 50-yard freestyle, swimming in 27.37, while Donovan posted a strong 1:05.31 in the 100-yard backstroke.
 
Stetten and Levy showed their versatility in their victories. Stetten finished in first place in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 1:08.40, then she touched first in the 500-yard freestyle in 5:54.70, which included a fast split of 35.60 in the final lap. Levy took the 100-yard freestyle in 59.66, then swam a strong 32.42 to wrap up the 1,000-yard freestyle, finishing in 11:28.73.
 
Wagner finished first in both the 100-yard breaststroke (1:12.70) and the 200-yard IM (2:22.83), while Madison Collins took home first in the 200-yard freestyle (2:11.16).
 
On the men's side, Jason Hansen won two individual meets, finishing first in the 500-yard freestyle (5:24.95) and the 1,000-yard freestyle (11:11.10). Hiro Kamei, Harrison Shockley, and Ben Rudman, also won two events; they first teamed up with Gabriel Salitan-Alvarez to swim a strong time of 1:48.42 in the 200-yard medley relay. Kamei then swam strong times in the 50-yard freestyle (23.55), Shockley broke the one-minute mark in the 100-yard backstroke (56.61), and Rudman took home first in the 100-yard freestyle (53.98).
 
Other winners include Michael Mattone in the 200-yard IM, holding off a strong comeback by teammate Kinser Bonner. His winning time of 2:21.20 edged Bonner's mark by just over three-tenths of a second. In the 200-yard freestyle relay, the team of Daryl Kwan, Owen Kula, Josh Karen, and Chris Bonardi swam a strong time of 1:44.34.
 
On the diving board, Kevin Brito scored a 208.20 in the 1-meter dive and picked up a win in the 3-meter dive (279.68), while Hannah Krall finished in second on the 3-meter dive with a score of 205.05, three-hundredths of a point from first.
 
The Thoroughbreds will head to Troy on Saturday at 1 p.m. to take on RPI in league action.
