Big fourth quarter moves Union past Skidmore, 13-6

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y.—Union College broke open an 8-6 game with five unanswered fourth quarter goals in 13-6 Liberty League win over Skidmore College, Wednesday night at Wachenheim Field.
 
The Thoroughbreds are 5-7 overall and 1-2 in Liberty League play, while the Dutchmen move to 7-5 and 2-2.
 
Cody Legeza scored twice for Skidmore. Kevin Mulvey, Jack Curry, Ryan Warnock, and Justin Csenge had single goals. Warnock won 10 of 19 face offs and had four ground balls. Will Murphy and Curry also had four ground balls each.
 
Peter Richardson led Union with three goals and two assists. Nolan Stauffer had two goals and an assist, while John Edmonds, Sean Hanley, and Josh Freilich had two goals each.
 
Cody Legeza put the Thoroughbreds in front first at 10:21 of the first. Richardson tied it at 7:19, but Warnock won the face off and went right through the Union defense to score his third goal of the season.
 
The Dutchmen scored the next five goals to take a 6-2 lead.  Skidmore took advantage of a pair of Union penalties to cut it to 6-4 on man-up goals from Legeza and Curry.  Richardson pushed the Dutchmen lead back to three, 7-4 with a goal in the final minute of the half.
 
The Thoroughbreds fought to get it back to a one-goal game in the third quarter. Mulvey scored his 29th of the season at 10:27 and Csenge got his fourth at 5:03.  
 
Union regrouped and kept Skidmore off the board for the rest of the way, while scoring the game's final six goals.
 
The Thoroughbreds outshot the Dutchmen 39-38 and had a 26-22 ground ball advantage. Chris Baughan had 10 saves for Skidmore, while Sam Bebout had 11 for Union.
 
Skidmore hosts Rensselaer on Saturday at 1 p.m.
