SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y.—Vassar College used a pair of six run innings to sweep Skidmore 6-4, 6-4 in Liberty League baseball Friday at Castle Diamond.
 
The Thoroughbreds fall to 4-10 and 1-5, while the Brewers are 8-8 and 4-2. The teams move to Poughkeepsie for two games on Saturday at 12 p.m.
 
In the first game, Skidmore took a 2-0 lead in the first on an RBI double by 
Josh Brown. It stayed 2-0 until Vassar scored six runs behind Matthew Hernandez's three-run home run.
 
The Thoroughbreds got one back in the bottom of the fourth when 
Mike LaVita tripled and scored on a 
Chris Lorenz ground out.  In the seventh, 
Hayden Smith had an RBI double to get it to 6-4, but Vassar starter Johnny Mrlik got out of trouble for the complete game win.
 
Mrlik allowed four runs on eight hits, walked five and struck out eight. 
Kenny Ajello took the loss for the Thoroughbreds. 
Ben Murphy had three shutout one-hit innings of relief to keep the game close.
 
LaVita was 2-2 and 
Daniel Dasgupta went 2-3 with a run.
 
Skidmore started game two the same way with a pair of runs in the first and one in the fifth to go up 3-0. 
Shawn Klier had an RBI double and stole home for the two first inning runs. Klier had an RBI single in the fifth for the third run.
 
Vassar left the bases loaded in the first and third innings, but broke through for six runs in the sixth. Hernandez, Chris Leem and Denis Shanagher had a RBI singles and Nick Johnson had a two-run double.
 
Steven Gilbert scored on a wild pitch in the seventh for Skidmore's fourth run.
 
Klier finished 2-4 with a run and two RBI. Gilbert was 2-3 with a run. Starter Steven Anderson went 5.1, allowing three runs on seven hits with six strikeouts. Pete Delalio (1-1) took the loss in relief.
 
Johnson was 4-4 with a run and two RBI for the Brewers. Jonathan Hong (2-2) zgot the win and Connor Cucalon earned is first save of the season.
