Skidmore splits at Vassar

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y.—Andrew Aikins pitched a complete game shutout to lead Skidmore to a 2-0 first game win over Vassar in Liberty League play Saturday. The Brewers came back to win the second 5-6 in 11 innings.
 
The Thoroughbreds are 5-11 and 2-6. Vassar is 9-9 and 5-3.
 
Aikins (3-1) went all seven innings, allowing only three hits, three walks and he struck out three. Josh Brown had an RBI single in the third and Shankar Mani had an RBI single in the seventh to account for the scoring. Mani was 3-4 and Daniel Dasgupta was 2-3 with an run.
 
The second game featured a little bit of everything, including a long rain delay.
 
Skidmore erased a 2-0 deficit with three runs in the top of the fourth. Hayden Smith had an RBI single, followed by an RBI triple from Jeb Clarke and a sac fly by Mat Marino.  The Brewers added two in the sixth to go up 4-3. Shawn Klier had a two-run single in the seventh to move the Thoroughbreds in front, 5-4.  Vassar forced extra innings with a run in the ninth.
 
The Brewers won it with an unearned run in the 11th.
 
Klier and Clarke were 2-5, while Dasgupta was 2-4. Eric Damphousse went 2-3.  Will Potter had a strong no-decision start. He went 5.1 innings, allowing three earned runs on six hits, with three walks and one strikeout. Misha Holzman had a pair of scoreless innings in relief. Chris Reenstierna was tagged with the hard-luck loss.
 
Skidmore will host Plattsburgh on April 6 in a nonleague game at 4 p.m.
