TROY, N.Y. – The Skidmore College swimming and diving teams finished 2016 against Division II The College of Saint Rose, at the Robison Pool on the campus of RPI Saturday afternoon. The Thoroughbred men fell in a close battle by a 109-105 score, while the women fell 135-95.
The men stand at 3-3 and the women are 2-4 heading to the holiday break.
The Skidmore divers swept on the 1- and 3-meter boards, with
Kevin Brito winning for the men, and
Rachel Adamsky leading the way for the women.
Hiro Kamei continued his fine start to the season, finishing first in the men's 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:04.28, with teammate Joseph Stagliano right behind him at 1:05.69.
Jazmin Rendon also picked up a victory, winning in the 100-yard backstroke going away with a time of 1:04.63.
For the men, Ben Rudman picked up second-place finishes in both the 100-yard (52.56) and 200-yard (1:55.27) freestyle events, as did
Harrison Shockley in the 100-yard backstroke (56.18). For the women,
Elizabeth Levy posted strong times in the 100-yard butterfly (1:05.76) and the 200-yard IM (2:23.58).
Meredith Wagner swam well in the 500- (5:37.97) and 1,000-yard freestyle (11:48.37), picking up a second and third-place finish respectively. The 200-yard medley relay team of Rendon, Wagner,
Claire Stetten, and
Erin Donovan finished in second with a time of 1:58.24, just over a second away from the win.
In the final event of the afternoon, the 200-yard freestyle relay, The College of Saint Rose edged the Thoroughbred team of Rudman, Stagliano,
Owen Kula, and
Daryl Kwan to pick up the narrow team victory. The foursome finished in a strong time of 1:40.65.
Both Thoroughbred teams will take a holiday break, returning to action on Jan. 14 for the RPI Invite.
