SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y.—The #14/15 Skidmore College hockey team downed Connecticut College 2-1 Saturday in the first round of the Skidmore Invitational Tournament.
The Thoroughbreds will face Neumann University in Sunday's final at 4 p.m. Neumann beat Fitchburg State 6-0 in the other semifinal game. The consolation game is at 1 p.m.
Skidmore (6-2) will be playing in the championship game for the first time since 2013. The Thoroughbreds last won the event in 2008.
Mickey Foley scored his first goal of the season off a rebound to give Skidmore an early 1-0 lead at 3:02 of the first period.

Andrew Popp hit a charging
Anthony Bird with a perfect pass that Bird fired past Camel goalie Avery Gobbo, high glove side at 8:11.
Conn College scored its lone goal seconds after the Thoroughbreds killed off a power play. Ryan Petti was credited with his first career goal off a rebound at 7:09 of the second period. Jacob Moreau and Brenden Russ assisted.
Nobody scored in the third period. The Camels threatened and nearly tied it on a short handed breakaway, but Skidmore goalie
Jack McDonald turned away all seven shots he faced in the period to preserve the win.
Both teams were 0-5 on the power play. Skidmore out shot Conn College 34-14.
McDonald improved to 3-2 with 13 saves, while Gobbo finished with 32 saves.
NEUMANN 6 FITCHBURG 0
Jory Mullin scored three goals and Shane Topf added two to lead Neumann (6-3) to 6-0 win over Fitchburg (3-4-1). Anthony Pupplo stopped all 17 shots he faced for the shutout.
Mullin and Topf scored 13 seconds apart in the first period for a 2-0 Knights lead. Mullin added a pair of goals in the second period and Liam Board had one for a 5-0 Neumann advantage after two. Topf tallied his fifth of the season in the third period for the 6-0 final. Board and Shane Morrissey had three assists each for Neumann.
Neumann out shot Fitchburg 42-17. Charles Jakobsson had 20 saves over the first two periods for Fitchburg, while Quinn Wold stopped 16 shots in the third period.
