Skidmore falls to Union in non-conference contest

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y.-- Union College scored four unearned runs in an 8-4 non-league baseball win over Skidmore College Thursday evening at Castle Diamond.

The Thoroughbreds are 8-18 and travel to St. Lawrence for four Liberty League games on Saturday and Sunday. The Dutchmen go to 17-9 and head to RIT for four weekend league games.

Skidmore sent nine batters to the plate in a four-run first inning. Josh Brown had an RBI double and Mat Marino singled and later scored on a fielder's choice.

Union tied it in the fourth with four runs, three coming off a two-strike home run by Eric Eagan.

The Dutchmen would get the eventual winning run in the fourth when Zack Twitch got hit by a pitch, went to second on a failed pickoff, went to third on a bunt and then scored on an infield out.

Union added two in the fifth and another in the sixth for the 8-4 win.

Marino was 2-5 and Mike Lavita went 2-4. Skidmore used six pitchers by design. Nick Petrella started and didn't allow a run in two innings. Joe Warner took the loss in relief, allowing the unearned run in the fourth.  Justin  Willig pitched the final two innings and didn't allow a run and had two strikeouts.

For Union, Eagan was 1-3 and Jake Fishman went 2-2 with a double. Nick Williams went six innings for his first win of the season. He allowed four runs (three earned) on six hits, two walks and he struck out two.
