Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse |

Men's lacrosse falls at Clarkson, 14-7

POTSDAM, N.Y.— Clarkson used seven first-quarter goals, including six unanswered, to pull away for a 14-7 Liberty League win over the Skidmore College men's lacrosse team, Saturday afternoon at Hantz Turf Field.

The Thoroughbreds go to 4-8 overall and 1-4 in the Liberty League, while the Golden Knights improve to 5-5 overall and 2-2 in the conference.

Kevin Mulvey extended his scoring streak to five games, netting his third consecutive hat trick to lead Skidmore. Josh Trachtenberg added a pair of goals and Henry Thomsett and Ian Maag each tallied to round out the scoring for the Thoroughbreds.

Ryan DaRin led the Clarkson charge in the first quarter, netting a hat trick in the opening 14:03 as the Golden Knights took a 6-0 lead. Mulvey got Skidmore on the board with 17 seconds remaining in the frame, but Dylan Broomfield answered back for Clarkson seven seconds later. Broomfield won the ensuing faceoff and drove in on goal before ripping home a long-range shot.

After both teams managed a goal each in the second quarter, the Golden Knights extended their advantage to 10-2 in the third with back-to-back goals from Bloomfield and Ryan St. Croix. Mulvey had his second of the game cancelled out by Mark Uhlig's first of the season, but Trachtenberg potted the final goal of the quarter off a feed from RJ Caruso to make it 11-4 heading into the final stanza.

Clarkson put the game out of reach with three straight goals in the first 4:16 of the fourth. Robert Linder converted on a man-up opportunity, St. Croix added his second and Jack Dowst capped the run. The Thoroughbreds scored the final three goals of the contest, but that's as close as they would get.

The Golden Knights outshot Skidmore 48-26 and owned a 33-20 edge in groundballs. Broomfield was dominant at the faceoff X, going 17 for 22 to go along with a game-high five groundballs. Chris Baughan made 14 saves in goal for the Thoroughbreds, while Nick Strandholm stopped 10 shots for his fifth win of the season.t 7

Skidmore hosts Trinity (Conn.) at 7 p.m. Tuesday, April 14 in its final non-conference game of the season.
