Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

Babson hands Skidmore first loss, 8-7

BABSON PARK, Mass.— Babson College held off a late Skidmore rally to post an 8-7 non-conference win in women's lacrosse action on Saturday afternoon at MacDowell Field.

The Thoroughbreds drop to 2-1, while the Beavers move to 1-2.

Skidmore's Spencer Morgan (Ridgewood, N.J.), Emma Harris (Mountain Lakes, N.J.) and Allison Byrne (West Hartford, Conn.) all scored twice for the Thoroughbreds. Morgan also finished with three draw controls and three caused turnovers, while Tyler Phillips (Marblehead, Mass.) scored once to go along with two groundballs, and two draw controls. Rachel Talanian (Norwell, Mass.) led all players with five caused turnovers and four groundballs in the loss.

For Babson, Rachel Secrist (Westford, Mass.) scored a game-high three goals, and goalkeeper Stevie Burger (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) made a career-high 16 save.

Burger, who made nine first-half saves, and her counterpart Megan Kolopsky (Amherst, N.H.) of Skidmore were both tremendous in the first half. Burger stopped three free-position shots, while Kolopsky made saves on six of Babson's nine free-position chances.

The Thoroughbreds took four different one-goal leads in the opening 30 minutes, only to have the Beavers pull even on each occasion. Byrne's second tally of the contest put Skidmore in front 3-2 at the 15:16 mark, but Secrist tied the game with 2:14 to go in the stanza. O'Halloran then followed a goal by Phillips with a free-position strike for the Thoroughbreds to make it 4-4 at the break.

Babson opened the second half by scoring four of the first five goals to build an 8-5 lead with 13:13 to play.
Harris scored twice in a 53-second span to pull the Thoroughbreds to within a goal with 9:40 left, but Burger made a pair of saves on her in the final eight minutes, and then denied consecutive shots by Morgan in the final 2:30 to preserve the Beavers first win of the year.

Kolopsky finished with nine saves for Skidmore, which held a 32-21 edge in shots. The Thoroughbreds also had a 21-14 edge in groundballs.

Skidmore returns to action when the Thoroughbreds take on Utica in their home opener at 4 p.m.
