TROY, N.Y. -- Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) used a 9-0 run to defeat Skidmore College in Liberty League men's lacrosse action Wednesday afternoon at East Campus Stadium.

With the win, 18th-ranked RPI improves to 7-2 on the season, and 2-0 in conference play, while Skidmore drops to 2-5 overall, and 0-2 in the league.
The Thoroughbreds scored the first three goals of the game, and held a 3-1 advantage after the first quarter.
Josh Trachtenberg took an assist from
Brendan Halloran to start the scoring at 7:42.
Ian Maag assisted
Jack Livecchi  with just under three minutes to play in the first quarter, before
Jack Metzler pushed the Skidmore lead to 3-0 with 1:50 to play off a helper from
Kevin Mulvey. Rensselaer got on the board with under a minute to play in the first, as Matt Hall got an unassisted shot past Skidmore goalkeeper
Chris Baughan, with just 45 seconds on the clock.
Hall's goal to end the first started the nine-goal streak for the Engineers, which continued into the fourth quarter. Skidmore's
Chris Melligon took an assist from
Ryan Warnock for the fourth Thoroughbred tally with :45 to play in the fourth.
RPI outshot Skidmore, 49-19, in the game, and held a 35-15 advantage in ground balls.
