Thoroughbreds swept by offensive minded Engineers

WINTER HAVEN, Fla.-- The Rensselaer baseball team tagged Skidmore pitchers for 36 runs on the way to a 17-3, 19-16 Liberty League sweep.
 
The Thoroughbreds head north with a 4-6 overall and 0-4 league record. The Engineers are 5-3 and 4-0.
 
In the first game, RPI pounded out 17 runs on 15 hits and two Skidmore errors.  Matt Barra led the Thoroughbreds, going 2-4 with a three-run double.
 
Both teams struggled on the mound in the second game. Skidmore came from six runs down in the bottom of ninth to tie the game 16-16, but the Engineers scored three more in the 10th for the 19-16 win.
 
Shankar Mani was 3-4 with a double and three RBI. Eric Damphousse was 1-3 with a two-run triple. Steven Gilbert went 3-4 with a double and RBI. Mike Lavita, Shawn Klier, and Josh Brown had two hits each.
 
Skidmore will host Vassar College in a Liberty League doubleheader on Saturday at 12 p.m.
