Colorado Springs, Colo.—The Skidmore women's lacrosse team scored two goals in the final 2:57 to secure a 13-11 win against Colorado College, Wednesday afternoon in Colorado Springs.
The Tigers (4-5) scored four unanswered goals in the second half to tie the game at 11-11, but
Tyler Phillips put the Thoroughbreds (4-1) back in front with 2:57 to play.
Brittney Dioneda provided an insurance goal 22 seconds later, sealing the 13-11 win.
Phillips netted five goals for the second time in three games and tied for a game-high with five draw controls.
Spencer Morgan recorder her second hat trick of the season, Dioneda scored a pair of goals and
Marisa Caponi had a goal and an assist.
Skidmore was quick out of the gate, scoring four goals in the first 8:14. A pair of Phillips goals bookended the charge, while
Paige DiAntonio and Dioneda chipped in with a goal each. After Natalie Shishdo put Colorado College on the board, the Thoroughbreds rattled off three more goals in a six-minute span to take a 7-1 lead.
Steph Kelly scored her 15th goal of the season to make it 7-2, but Caponi restored Skidmore's six-goal cushion with 3:35 remaining in the frame. The Tigers cut the deficit to 8-4 at the half, scoring two goals in the final 21 seconds.
The Thoroughbreds bounced back with two quick goals to start the second half. Morgan completed her hat trick 1:31 into the stanza and
Emma Harris potted her eighth of the season 1:47 later to make it 10-4.
Colorado College continued to cut into the Skidmore lead, battling back with three-straight goals to make it 10-7. Phillips gave the Thoroughbreds some breathing room with her fourth of the day, but again the Tigers showed their resiliency, finally tying the game 11-11 behind four consecutive goals.
Phillips continued her dominant display in the closing minutes of the game, giving Skidmore a 12-11 lead with just under three minutes to play before Dioneda's second of the contest put the game out of reach.
Kelly led the Tigers with three goals and an assist. Mary Taussig had a hat trick and Iris Rayburn produced two goals.
Skidmore outshot Colorado College 26-23 and won the groundball battle 16-14.
Megan Kolopsky stopped four shots in goal for the Thoroughbreds, while Martha Smith turned away seven shots for the Tigers.
Skidmore takes on Pomona-Pitzer at 1 p.m. Friday, March 20 at Colorado College.
