Box Score 2 WINTER HAVEN, Fla.-The Skidmore College softball team suffered a pair of defeats on the second day of the Rebel Spring Games, falling 8-6 to Eastern Connecticut State and 5-3 to Centenary College, Monday in Winter Haven, Fla.
In the first game,
Mackenzie Whiting got Skidmore on the board in the top of the first with an RBI double.
Lizette Roman-Johnston tripled to right in the second, plating
Kristina Foley and
Dani DeGregory made it 3-0 with an RBI single in the next at bat.
Eastern Connecticut used a three-run third to tie it up, but the Thoroughbreds (1-3) responded with three runs in the top of the fourth. Roman-Johnston and
Emily Mangan both scored on an error with the bases loaded and
Lauren Fortunato drove in DeGregory with a single.
The Warriors responded with six runs in the bottom of the fifth and relief pitcher Emily Komornik sealed the win, allowing just two hits over the final two innings.
Fortunato led the offense, going 3-for-4 at the plate, DeGregory finished 2-for-3 with two runs scored and
Mackenzie Whiting 2-for-4.
Amanda Carilli took the loss on the mound, allowing five runs and nine hits in six innings.
In the second game, Centenary broke through in the fourth inning, scoring five runs to take a 5-0 lead. Whiting drove in the Thoroughbreds first run of the day with a double in the bottom of the sixth and
Christine Munisteri scored on a fielder's choice to make it 5-2. Skidmore threatened in the bottom of the seventh, as Roman-Johnston brought in Mangan with an RBI single, but Cyclones relief pitcher Kylie Morgan-Polefka got the Thoroughbreds to ground into a game-ending double play.
Roman-Johnston was 2-for-3 for the game.
Cassie Fishkin pitched five innings, allowing five runs on 11 hits.
Skidmore returns to action on Tuesday, taking on #12 Kean at 10 a.m. before facing SUNY Cortland at 12:15 pm.
