FORT MYERS, Fla. – The Skidmore College baseball team opened the 2015 season with a doubleheader split with Lasell College in Fort Myers, Fla. at the Lee County Player Development Complex.
The Thoroughbreds took the first game 9-6, losing the second game 6-5.
In the first game, Skidmore got on the board early with four runs in the first inning.
Matt Barra (Pittsford, N.Y.) and
Nick Barra(Pittsford, N.Y.) and
Jeb Clarke (Bethel, Maine) cranked out consecutive doubles for Skidmore's first three at bats. A left side single by
Mike LaVita (Walpole, Mass.) drove in Clarke to put the Thoroughbreds up 4-0.
Skidmore extended its lead to 8-1 on the way to the 9-6 final.
Nick Petrella (West Sayville, N.Y.) earned the win for the Thoroughbreds, allowing four runs over six innings.
Daniel Dasgupta picked up the save. LaVita finished 3-3 with two runs and an RBI.
Mat Marino was 2-4 and
Matt Barra ended 2-3.
In the second game, Skidmore struggled at the plate with only four hits. Dasgupta was 2-3 with an RBI.
Andrew Bannon took the loss on the mound, allowing four runs on three hits and five walks.
Skidmore plays a pair on March 16 against Plymouth State.
